We live in a pretty exciting time.

With technology advancing at a rapid pace, more and more devices are being created with the potential to make our lives easier.

While the world of automation can seem like an overwhelming place, it really only exists to help you simplify what you want to simplify. For example, replacing the time consuming things in your daily routine is a great place to start!

If you automate certain tasks so that you don’t have to think about them, you’ll be less stressed and find that they actually get done.

So here’s how to make automation work for you:

1. Auto Pay Your Bills

An easy way to save on time and stress is to set up automatic bill payments. In this digital age, you’d be hard-pressed to find a company that doesn’t offer the option to auto pay.

You’ll never be late for a bill, you won’t blank on paying and it’ll save on paper clutter. Most importantly, you don’t have to spend countless hours wading through different letters and payment sites! Instead, just set it and forget it.

2. Change the Temperature

By controlling your air conditioning heating or cooling remotely, you can keep the house pleasant when you’re home and save energy while you’re away.

This means that whether it’s summer or winter, you can set a time for your air conditioner, fan or heater to turn on so that your house is the perfect temperature when you get home from a hard day at work.

This can be a big convenience, as you can simply adjust the thermostat from the convenience of your office a few hours before heading home. So it’s cost effective and saves on energy!

3. Meal Prep Magic

In a dream scenario, it’d be amazing to cook every meal and have a week’s worth of meal plans worked out ahead of time. But that’s not always the case! A quick fix can be buying meals that are pre-prepared, or even having them delivered to you.

But if you love a home cooked meal, you can save time by using automation software to switch your slow cooker on remotely, or even schedule it to come on at a particular time! That way, as soon as you come home from work your meal is prepped, fresh, and ready to eat!

Automating your slow cooker means dinner is ready to go as soon as you get home.

4. Public Transport Tips

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve just missed a train because I’ve been busy putting money on my card. Luckily enough, if you live in Australia, you can set your travel card to automatically top up, meaning you’ll never miss a train to slow Eftpos machines again!

5. Organise your life

Arranging and coordinating computer files can be a very time consuming and dull task. So why not use an app to do it for you?

There are plenty of programs out there that will automatically organise your files based on name, date, file type, etc. This way you can keep your computer neat and tidy, saving you time on sorting, organising, and deleting everything that makes its way onto your computer.

6. Morning Rituals

If you’re like me, your morning is always a bit of a rush! Here’s where smart devices and smart plugs can come in handy. Missed out on straightening your hair? Didn’t get to remove those creases from your clothing?

By plugging your iron and hair straightener into smart plugs, you can automate and schedule when these appliances turn on, so they’re always ready to go when you need them.

7. Caffeine Fix

Speaking of rushed mornings; coffee is another way to automate your life! Program your automated coffee machine to start brewing right when you wake up so you can navigate your day alert and ready.

8. Make it rain

Save money without lifting a finger by scheduling appliances and devices to run when electricity is cheaper – i.e. during the off-peak times (when electricity is at its cheapest – usually overnight) and shoulder times (when electricity rates are in between – usually occurring just before and after peak times).

9. Shop til you Drop

Some people love shopping, but sometimes standing in a supermarket is not the most exciting place to be. The household necessities, the groceries and just little bits and pieces can keep sending you back to the store when you could be doing something else.

You’d be surprised by how many different services aim to automate the process of buying all that boring stuff you always need. You can set your shopping list online, and then set reoccurring delivery schedules to make sure you never run out of toothpaste again!

10. Out of Town

Heading off on holiday? Use automated lighting schedules to give the appearance that you’re actually home. By creating that lived-in look, any would-be intruder is immediately scared off. So you can enjoy your vacation without stressing about security!

By automating parts of your life, you can focus on what matters. Whether it’s getting work done, hanging out with friends or embarking on a Netflix binge, home automation is your ticket to extra time. So why not give it a try!
